Cheryl Heller

Cheryl Heller is a visionary co-founder of the Strategic Board Collective and the powerhouse behind Pillar One Consulting, bringing over two decades of executive expertise to small business owners as an Advisor and Fractional CFO. Additionally, as a Partner at Clipper Ship Ventures, she focuses on driving growth in the fintech and business technology sectors.  Previously, Cheryl spent 20 years at Capital One where her tenure was marked by her leadership in finance, operations, and human resources.  She excelled in driving transformational initiatives, cutting costs, revamping culture, and enhancing operational efficiencies. Her foundational experience includes impactful roles at leading insurance and public accounting firms, with a focus on regional banks and real estate partnerships.

Additionally, Cheryl enjoys exploring alternative investments including investing in real estate, owning and managing several short- and mid-term rentals in both beach and urban locations as well as trading cryptocurrency.

Cheryl's educational background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, a master's degree from the University of Hartford, and specialized certificates including a Professional Masters in Banking from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University, a Commercial Real Estate Certificate from Cornell University and a Certificate in FinTech from New York University. As a Certified Public Accountant, Cheryl's financial acumen is beyond question, and her additional credentials in Commercial Real Estate and FinTech underline her comprehensive advisory capacity.

Cheryl dedicates her time to fostering leadership and empowerment among women as a volunteer with The Leadership Foundry and Delta Gamma Fraternity. Furthermore, Cheryl volunteers with the Montgomery County Humane Society, serving the needs of dogs waiting for their forever homes. Living in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with her husband and two rescue dogs, she balances her professional pursuits with a love for travel, especially to visit her daughter, and personal wellness as an active member of the Peloton community.

Cheryl's holistic approach to life is reflected in her business ethos—where she helps small businesses succeed and thrive with confidence in their financial future. Her strategic acumen is a beacon for small businesses seeking not just advice but a partnership for sustainable success.

Sandra Payne

Sandra Payne, the visionary co-founder of the Strategic Board Collective and the catalyst behind Sandra Payne Consulting, brings over two decades of executive experience to her roles as an Advisor and Fractional CFO, empowering small business owners with strategic support. Sandra’s professional career has showcased her expertise as a financial strategist and executive in private accounting roles focused on internal audit and financial leadership within educational, medical, and dental organizations.

 

Her earlier career in public accounting as an auditor provided her with extensive experience across various industries, including healthcare, pension plans, construction, energy, nonprofit, and government entities. In addition to her financial acumen, Sandra excels at building cohesive teams and fostering strong business relationships, which serve as a cornerstone of her strength as a financial executive.

In addition to her corporate experience, Sandra has developed expertise in real estate investing, specializing in residential and commercial properties. She is especially passionate about offering vacation rentals, finding joy in being part of countless happy family memories.

Sandra's educational background is a testament to her commitment to excellence in her field. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Accounting from Eastern Washington University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Weber State University, where she earned a Master of Accountancy and was recognized as a Goddard Scholar, placing her among the top 10% of students nationally. Sandra's dedication to maintaining high professional standards is evident in her certifications as a Certified Public Accountant and previously as a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Sandra actively contributes to her community through various volunteer roles and affiliations. Sandra served on the Executive Board of the Women in Business committee for the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce and has been involved with the Habitat for Humanity Finance Committee. Her involvement in these organizations reflects her commitment to using her expertise to benefit others and foster community development.

Sandra lives in Mountain Green, Utah, with her husband and cherishes spending time with her two grown sons and their families. She loves gardening and hiking the beautiful nature trails near her mountain home. Traveling and spending time with her four grandchildren are her greatest joys, bringing a balance of adventure and family connection to her life. Sandra’s overall philosophy centers on supporting the growth of others, whether nurturing her family or empowering her team and clients to reach their fullest potential.
